Figure studies in oil

I have a painting in progress right now, and I am waiting for the current layer to dry before I go back and add the next.  So while that's going on, I did a couple of oil studies today.  I recently picked up a couple pads of canvas paper so I could do just that, and I'm liking this stuff a lot.  So here are the two studies from today.  Both are done with raw umber, burnt sienna, and white.  I used a bit of linseed oil to soften it up, but these are mostly dry brush "painted drawings" if you will...

Updates 4/18/13

So it has been a little while since I put anything new here, so here it goes.

The 9th Annual Images Gallery Juried Show is starting tomorrow, April 19th, with an opening reception at 6:00.  I have already received notice that I've been awarded something, but they won't tell me what.  So I'll have to wait until they announce it tomorrow at the reception.  I hope some friends can make it!  But if not tomorrow, then sometime before it comes down on May 11.

Here is a new painting that I have finished recently.  This is a conceptual piece referencing a passage of Scripture, Matthew 27: 51-53.  I'm doing some research and studying at the moment for future paintings.  I've been drawing, reading, watching videos, and looking at other works by some contemporary masters to get some insights.  New work is on the way.  In the meantime, here is a change of pace from my portraits:

The Veil Was Torn

In the works right now are some portrait and figure studies in oil.  Tonight I will be at my bi-weekly figure drawing session at the gallery, which is always a great exercise for me.

I am still working on finalizing my series of Alla Primas.  It's still going to take a while before they're all ready for showing, but I'm still really hoping it will happen by this summer, or fall at the latest.

That's all for now, stay tuned for more - particularly news and pictures from the Images Exhibition.

Various figure drawings

I haven't been painting much lately... I'm working up to that, and in the meantime I've been doing a lot of drawing.  So here are some figure drawings and such that I've been working on lately.  Tonight was another really great figure drawing session at the gallery.  Lots of fun and great exercise.
