News from the Studio 2/9/18

Greetings friends, here is the latest from the studio:

-I am set to show two pieces in the upcoming Blue Springs Fine Art Show the first weekend of March (3rd and 4th), making this my ninth year entering this show.  It's kind of become a tradition for me now.  For those of you in the Kansas City area, I hope you will come and see the show.

The two pieces I'll be showing this year are Still, a small 10x8 portrait, and one of my recent works in charcoal called Wisdom.

-I've also officially entered the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society Best of America Small Works exhibition.  I will be getting the official word of my acceptance or rejection in a few weeks.  As soon as that word comes, I will be posting an update.  The show is taking place in Nashville, TN at Richland Fine Art Gallery.  I've entered three pieces for that show, including a new self portrait that I just completed called The Artist's Studio.

-My most recent painting is a small-ish nature piece on canvas.  This one is called Nourished.  I was thinking about the setting of a grassy landscape right after a spring rain.  The air is fresh, the temperature is cool, and the entire landscape has just gotten a big refreshing drink.  If ever there were "happy trees", it's at this moment.

This piece is a continuation of my nature and landscape series that I'm calling Scenes of Creation.  I just finished an exhibition of some of these pieces in the KC Crossroads arts district in January, and I am thinking of focusing on this series a bit more in 2018.  Some of the paintings in this series go back to 2013-2014, and I am hoping to update it considerably with new pieces and new approaches and techniques.  More to come later!

-I am still continuing my series of charcoal and graphite works, and will hopefully have an opportunity to show them collectively later this year.  Check out my previous blog post to see a few of the works in my drawing series.

That is it for now, more updates to come later.  Happy painting!
